It is a well known fact that steel industries consume large amounts of electricity, and it is one of the primary factors, which determine the production cost. We at ARS metals have taken the innovative initiative to integrate Power Plant at our premises. Of the 80 acres acquired by the company, an area of 50 acres will be utilized for the thermal power plant with a capacity of 2*60 MW, while the rest of the land will be utilized for expansion of the steel production unit in the future.

The proposed power project will be realized in two phases of 60MW each. The boiler technology for the project is Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustion (CFBC), which has achieved the best air pollution control at the least possible cost. The boiler will be capable of producing electricity through all the variety of coal available around the world, as the coal will be sourced both indigenously through long-term coal linkage with Coal India Ltd and imported through acquisition of captive mines in South East Asia and eastern Africa.

The first 60MW project is under execution on turnkey basis by Cethar Vessels Ltd. The major equipments, that is, boiler will be sourced from one of the oldest boiler manufacturers in India, that is, Cethar Vessels Ltd and the turbine will be sourced from Shin Nippon, Japan. The expected life of the equipments for the project is 30 years. All the clearances required for the project has been obtained. The target commissioning date for 1st 60 MW is MAY 2012.

Future integration

The company’s strategy of integration will be soon going a step further as it has plans of entering the coal mining industry in South East Asia and East Africa to ensure the continuous supply of the fuel needs for the power project.
